Layering System
- Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom)
- Insulating mid-layer β fleece or lightweight down jacket
- Waterproof, windproof outer shell jacket and pants
- Down jacket rated to at least -15Β°C for high camps
Footwear
Broken-in waterproof hiking boots with ankle support are non-negotiable. Bring camp shoes or sandals for evenings at tea houses, and 3-4 pairs of moisture-wicking wool socks.
Essential Gear
- 4-season sleeping bag (rated -15Β°C to -20Β°C for high altitude)
- Trekking poles β save your knees on steep descents
- Headlamp with spare batteries
- Water purification tablets or a filter bottle
- Sunglasses with UV protection (snow glare is intense above 4,000m)
What NOT to Pack
Leave cotton clothing at home β it holds moisture and chills you fast. Skip heavy guidebooks and excess electronics; most tea houses charge devices for a small fee.

This is exactly the info I needed before my trek β thank you!
Well written! I'd add that hiring a local guide makes a huge difference too.
Very informative β thanks for the detailed breakdown.
Loved reading this, can't wait to experience Nepal myself.
